Unveil a hidden gem within the embrace of the Pongola Game Reserve – welcome to Nkonkoni Fishing Camp & Chalets. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Pongolapoort Biosphere, this is more than just a destination; it's an experience like no other.

Embraced by Nature

Nestled on the cusp of the southern shores of the Pongolapoort (Jozini) Dam, Nkonkoni Fishing Camp & Chalets offers a front-row seat to the untouched beauty of the Bird Sanctuary. Gaze upon the Lebombo Mountains' rugged silhouette as it merges with the sprawling savannah woodlands of northern Zululand. This is a place where the natural world takes center stage, and the Pongolapoort Dam, often called a mini-Kariba, showcases its vibrant wildlife tapestry. Roaming this landscape are elephants, buffalo, rhinos, leopards, and a captivating array of antelope. The dam's waters come alive with hippos, crocodiles, and the revered TIGER FISH. Our commitment to sustainable fishing practices echoes through the "catch and release" philosophy, preserving the ecosystem for generations to come.

Unleash the Angler in You

Step into the heart of fishing ecstasy at Pongolapoort Dam, where the tigerfish reigns supreme. Over the years, the population of these feisty fish has flourished, with substantial specimens appearing in the early 1990s. The annals of fishing history were graced with an extraordinary moment in 1998, marked by an 8.3kg tigerfish triumph. Even today, expect to encounter specimens in the impressive 5 to 7kg range. While the average catch typically weighs less than a kilogram, the lure of landing a 4kg giant during a 3-day fishing expedition adds to the thrill.

The tigerfish's unwavering resistance, characterized by their formidable jaws and captivating predatory tactics, makes them a true prize. A 4:1 catch ratio is often anticipated when tangling with these water predators. Their lightning-quick sideways strikes, followed by a deft flip and engulfing of the bait headfirst, embody the essence of the hunt.
